How to price from cost and markup
Give a price list entry or a line its cost and a markup percent, and the price is worked out as the cost plus the markup.

Most parts are priced as what they cost you plus a markup, e.g. a $10.00 fitting at 35% markup is $13.50. Otto works that price out for you, on your price list and on any line of a quote, job or invoice.
Where
- Quotes → Price list → press an entry to open it: Cost and Markup.
- On a quote, job or invoice: under the lines, press Add cost and markup. Each line then shows Cost and Markup.
Steps
- Type the Cost, e.g. 10.00.
- Type the Markup, e.g. 35.
- The price becomes the cost plus that percent of it, rounded to the cent: 13.50. The price box is greyed, because the price now comes from the cost.
Good to know
- When the cost of a price list entry changes, type the new cost: the price moves with it. Quotes and invoices already written keep their lines.
- A cost without a markup is kept as a note of what the line cost you; the price stays what you typed.
- Picking an entry from your price list copies its cost and markup onto the line.
- The customer never sees a cost or a markup: their quote and invoice pages show prices only.
- Costs are money. A position that does not see money is not shown them, and lines it saves keep the cost they had.
If it doesn't work
- "A markup needs the cost it is added to." Type the cost first.
- "That cost and markup come to more than a line can hold." Check the numbers; a markup can be at most 1000%.
