How to find and watch your competitors

Tell Otto where you work, track up to eight competitors, and see what changed on their public websites.

Competitors shows who else sells what you sell where you work, what their public websites say, and what changed. Otto reads their public web pages and web search only, never their sales, ads or anything behind a login. It is under Growth → Competitors. Owners and admins add and remove competitors.

Say where you work

The first time you open Competitors, it asks Where do you work?. Fill it in and press Save and find competitors.

Once it is set, where you work lives in Settings → Where you work (under Your business). The Competitors page shows it at the top: press it to change it there. Your competitor search and every check use that place.

Track competitors

  1. Press Find competitors. Otto searches the web and suggests businesses near you.
  2. Press Track on the ones you want to follow, or press Add one and type a competitor yourself, then Track them.
  3. On a tracked competitor, press Check now to read their site straight away.

You can track up to eight. When all are used, the button says "All used — remove one to add".

What you see

  • What changed on their sites since the last check.
  • Prices: where you are cheapest and dearest, compared with your own price list.
  • Ratings: their current star rating and number of reviews.
  • Gaps and Ideas from Otto: what you could do about it. An idea's button only opens a page or prepares a draft, such as an Outreach campaign or a social post, which waits for approval like any other.
  • Report: one page to print or save as a PDF, plus Prices CSV and Changes CSV.

Choose Nightly or Weekly for how often Otto checks. Nightly costs nothing on nights a site has not changed: Otto only reads a page with AI when its text differs from last time. Readings this month counts those reads.

Alerts and a weekly digest come to you as a notice in Otto and an email to your own sign-in address. Nothing is ever sent to a competitor.

If it doesn't work

  • "Say where you work first" — fill in Where do you work? or Settings → Where you work.
  • "Web search is not switched on for this server" — finding competitors is not available here yet; you can still Add one yourself.
  • "Otto is already looking" — wait for the running search.
  • "Only an owner or admin can do this"
