How to add a picture to a cold campaign

Upload a picture, or have Otto make one with Higgsfield from your description, an example picture or your own website, then choose which email carries it.

Updated 2026-10-30

A cold campaign can carry one picture, for example a quick look at what your work could be for the business you are writing to. Add it on the campaign, in the Picture panel, before you press Ask to start. Only an owner or admin can do this. For a design on top of every email instead, see designed cold emails.

Upload your own picture

Press Upload your own picture and pick a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF. Otto checks the file itself, not its name, and keeps it only if it really is one of those. It is used as it is. This always works, even when making pictures is not setup on your Otto server.

Have Otto make one

Otto makes pictures with Higgsfield, on Otto's own account. Choose what Otto goes by:

  • My description only. Otto makes it from your words.
  • An example picture. Press Upload an example, or pick one you uploaded before. Otto hands it to Higgsfield as a reference picture. Higgsfield does not say how closely the result follows it, so describe what you want as well.
  • My website. Type your website's address (Otto fills in the one your business has saved). Otto reads your home page and takes its colours and the picture it shows when it is shared on social media. It never takes the words on it. If your site has no such picture, Otto uses its colours only and says so. If it finds neither, nothing is made and nothing is spent.

Then Describe the picture, pick a shape (wide, square or tall) and press Make it. It takes up to a few minutes; the panel shows it being made. Press Make another for more tries: they are all kept until you remove them.

Every picture Otto makes counts toward your business's pictures for the month, shared with your website. The panel shows how many are used. When they run out, or when making pictures is not setup on your server, or when generated pictures are switched off under Settings → Design, Make it is greyed out and the reason is shown beside it.

Choose the one for your emails

Press Use this one under a picture. Then, under How it goes in the emails:

  • The line in the email. To start with: "I made a quick picture of what this could look like for {company}: {picture}". {picture} becomes the picture's link, and {company} and {first_name} are filled in for each business.
  • Which email carries it. Email 1 to start with, or any follow-up.
  • Show the picture inside the email. Off to start with. Off, the email stays plain text and carries one line with the picture's link, which is better for landing in the inbox. On, the email also has a version with the picture drawn in, beside the same plain text, with your postal address and the line saying to reply "no" to stop in both. Emails with pictures inside are more likely to go to spam.

Press Save. Take it out of the emails removes it from the campaign but keeps the picture. Remove deletes a picture.

Check it, then approve it

A practice run shows the picture's line, or the picture itself, in the sample emails exactly as they will leave. The picture is part of what you approve in Reviews, and the approval says which email carries it. Once you have asked to start, the picture cannot be changed, and the picture the campaign was approved with cannot be removed, because the emails link to it.

If it doesn't work

  • "Generating pictures is not setup on this server yet." Otto's team has not connected Higgsfield on your server. You can still upload your own picture.
  • "This business has made its … generated pictures for the month." Upload a picture instead, or try again next month.
  • "Otto could not read your website: …" The reason follows. Upload an example instead, or make it from your description alone. Nothing was spent.
  • "That is not a picture Otto can use." Upload a PNG, JPEG, WebP or GIF.
