Events, volunteers and the volunteer sign-up page

Events with a capacity, a waitlist and check-in at the door; volunteers, shifts and hours; and a public page where volunteers sign themselves up.

Updated 2026-10-24

Events

Open Giving, then Events, and press New event. Type the name, the day and time, the place and, if you want, a capacity and a ticket price. The ticket price is recorded only: tickets are not sold online.

Switch on Public sign-up page to share a sign-up link. Once the event is full, new sign-ups join the waitlist, and when someone is taken off the list the first person waiting moves up. At the door, open the event and check each person in.

Events and volunteers are not money, so every position with Giving can use them; only ticket prices are hidden from positions that do not see money.

Volunteers and shifts

On the Volunteers tab, choose a supporter and press Add to put them on the volunteer list. Under Shifts, type a name and a date, and optionally the number of places, then press Add. Use Sign a volunteer up on a shift to put someone on it, and type the hours they gave once it is done. The volunteer list shows each person's hours for the year.

The volunteer sign-up page

People can sign themselves up for a shift on a public page.

  1. On the Volunteers tab, switch on Open beside Volunteer sign-up page. Only someone who manages can open or close it.
  2. On each shift you want listed, switch on On the sign-up page.
  3. Press Copy link and share it: on your website, in a newsletter or on a flyer.

The page lists the open shifts from today on, with the places left. A visitor picks one shift, types their name and email, and presses Sign up. They are added to your supporters if they are new, to the volunteer list, and to the shift, and you get a notice. A full shift cannot be picked.

Close the page with the same switch, and the link shows "This page is not available".
