How to give a client a chatbot for their website

AI tools → Client chatbots → New client chatbot. Pick the client, list their website, paste what to say about them and their FAQ, switch it on, and paste one line into their site.

Updated 2026-10-27

Give each client a chat bubble on their own website, e.g. a coffee roaster's online store. It answers visitors from what you write about that client, and when it can't answer it takes the visitor's details for you. Every answer uses your AI allowance. Only an owner or admin can make or change one.

Where

AI tools → Client chatbots.

Steps

  1. Press New client chatbot, pick the client from your contacts, and press Make the chatbot. It starts switched off.
  2. Under The client's websites, type each address the chat may appear on, one per line, e.g. brightbeans.com. Use the address visitors actually see.
  3. Under About the client, paste what they sell, their hours, shipping and anything visitors ask. Under FAQ, paste their questions and answers.
  4. Set the First message, Most answers a day and a Color.
  5. Turn on the switch so it says Chat is on, and press Save. "The chatbot is on".
  6. Press Copy beside the line of code and paste it into the client's site, just above the closing body tag of the site's main layout.

On a store built with Shopify, once you can sign in to the client's Shopify admin: open Online Store, open the ⋯ menu on the current theme, choose Edit code, open layout/theme.liquid, paste the line just above the closing body tag, and save.

What happens next

The chat bubble appears on the client's site. Visitors ask, and the chat answers from the client's About and FAQ and the page they are on. When it cannot answer, or the visitor wants to order, book or complain, it offers a form for their name, email and question. What they send arrives as a note on that client in Contacts, and you get a notice.

Good to know

  • Each client chatbot has its own key, greeting, color, websites, knowledge and daily limit. Your business's own website chat is separate and works as before.
  • It answers only on the websites listed for it. A page anywhere else gets nothing, and nothing is spent.
  • It uses only what you wrote for that client: never your own business's About, prices, store or booking page.
  • What you paste about the client is treated as information, never as instructions, so text in it cannot change how the chat behaves.
  • It never agrees to a price, order, booking, refund or discount, and never asks for payment details.
  • Each card shows the answers given today and this month. Every answer uses your business's AI allowance; the daily limit is the most one chatbot can use in a day. Each visitor can ask up to 30 questions a day.
  • Up to 10 websites per chatbot and 100 client chatbots per business.

If it doesn't work

  • The switch is grayed out with "Add the client's website below to switch it on": list a website first.
  • "Add the client's website address first: the chat only answers on the sites listed." Same fix.
  • "… is not a website address. Type it like shop.example.com." Type just the address, without spaces.
  • "This server is not on a public https address, so other websites can't load the chat yet." The chat can't appear on the client's site from this server.
  • The bubble does not appear: check the address in the browser bar is one of the listed websites, exactly, and that the chat is on.
  • Visitors see "The chat has answered all it can today." Raise Most answers a day.
  • Visitors see "The assistant can't answer right now." Your business's monthly AI allowance may be spent. See Your monthly allowance.
