How to spot what's trending and find vendors for it

See which online-store industries are growing now, which products in each are rising or upcoming, a graph of each one's Google Shopping searches, and start a vendor search in one press.

Updated 2026-10-28

Market trends shows which online-store industries are growing right now, what's selling in each, and a graph for every product. It is under Store → Trends, and under Insights for any business with a store.

Every graph is Google Shopping search interest in the United States, from Google Trends. Otto finds which products to graph by reading the web once a week for each industry, and keeps the page it read each one on. A product Google has no search data for is left out: nothing on this page is a made-up line.

Read the industries

  1. Recommended now is the industry growing fastest. Press it to open it.
  2. Under Industries, each strip shows how the last 13 weeks of shopping searches compare with the same 13 weeks a year before. A bar to the right is growth and to the left is a fall, with the figure beside it, e.g. +24%. Comparing the same weeks a year apart means a busy season doesn't look like a trend.
  3. Where the growth is shares out the growth between the industries that grew. Press a slice or a name to open that industry, or press Show as table.

An industry that says No data yet has not been read yet; Otto reads them all once a week.

Look inside an industry

  1. Press an industry. The graph shows its shopping searches week by week. Choose 1 year, 2 years or 5 years.
  2. Under What's selling in it, each product is marked:
    • Upcoming: close to nothing a year ago, and up by a third or more in the last 8 weeks.
    • Rising: up by a quarter or more on the same weeks a year ago.
    • Steady: neither.
    • Falling: down by a fifth or more on a year ago.
  3. Press a product to see its own graph, the figures behind its mark, and Why Otto picked it with a link to the page it came from.

Point at a graph to see each week's value, or press Show as table. 100 is the busiest week in that graph, so compare the shapes of two graphs, not their heights.

Find vendors

On a product, press Find vendors for this. Otto starts a vendor search for it on Alibaba, wholesale sites and makers' own websites and opens Vendors, where the results arrive in a few minutes. Nothing is sent to a vendor until you approve it in Reviews. See How to find vendors and ask for a quote.

The button needs Vendors switched on under Settings → What you use, and only an owner or manager can start a search. A vendor search uses your business's monthly research allowance; reading the market does not.

If it doesn't work

  • "Market data isn't switched on for this server yet." Otto's team has not connected the market data yet.
  • An industry says Google has no category for this. Google Trends has no category Otto could match it to, so it is shown without a graph rather than with a guess.
  • "Switch on Vendors in Settings → What you use to search for suppliers." Switch on Vendors, then press Find vendors for this again.
