How to write tech guides that show on the right jobs

Settings → Tools → Tech guides. Write short how-tos for the equipment you work on, tag each with what it applies to, and techs see it on the job sheet.

Updated 2026-10-25

Keep your own know-how where your techs need it: a short guide per kind of equipment, e.g. "Carrier 59SC: cleaning the flame sensor" or "Pentair pump: priming". When a job is about that equipment, the guide shows on the job sheet. It is part of Jobs, so Jobs must be switched on.

Where

Your name at the bottom of the menu → Settings → Tools → Tech guides → Open. The card shows for field service and trades businesses.

Write a guide

Only an owner or admin can write, change or delete guides. Everyone on the team can read them.

  1. Press New guide.
  2. Type a Title.
  3. Under Applies to, type what it is for, separated by commas, e.g. Carrier 59SC, flame sensor.
  4. Write the Guide: steps, part numbers, settings, anything a tech should know.
  5. Press Save guide.

On a job

Open the job. Under Tech guides, each matching guide is listed with what it matched. Press a guide to read it.

A guide matches when one of its Applies to words appears, as whole words, in the job's title, or in a record the job is about: the record's kind and its details, such as its make and model. So "Carrier 59SC" matches a furnace record with make Carrier and model 59SC, but not one with model 59SC5. "car" does not match "Carrier".

Good to know

  • Link the job to the customer's equipment under This job is about so the right guides show. Open the job again after linking a record to see its guides.
  • A job with no matching guide shows no Tech guides section.
  • Guides are text, shown as you wrote them.
