How to record snow and ice work and bill it per storm or per month
Settings → Tools → Snow and ice. Record pushes, inches and salt per property, set each customer's rates, and make one draft invoice per customer.
Updated 2026-10-25
For snow plowing and de-icing: record each visit to each property, then bill each customer from their own rates, either for one storm or for a whole month. It is part of Jobs, so Jobs must be switched on. To make invoices, Invoices must be switched on too.
Otto has no weather feed. You name each storm and type how deep it was.
Where
Your name at the bottom of the menu → Settings → Tools → Snow and ice → Open. The card shows for field service and trades businesses.
Add a storm
Under Storms, type the storm's name, e.g. January 14 storm, its day and how many inches fell. Press Add storm.
Record a visit
Anyone on the team with Jobs can do this.
- Under Record a visit, pick the customer.
- Pick the Storm, or No storm for a one-off visit.
- Type the Pushes, the Inches and the Salt applications. Leave Inches empty to use the storm's depth.
- Press Save visit.
A visit needs at least one push or one salt application.
Set each customer's rates
Only someone who sees money sees this part.
- Under Rates, pick the customer.
- Type any of Per push, Per storm, Per inch and Per salt application. Leave a rate empty to not charge it.
- Press Save rates.
Per storm is charged once for each storm the customer had a visit in. A visit with no storm counts as its own storm.
Bill it
- Under Bill snow work, pick A storm and the storm, or A month and the month.
- Check what each customer would be billed: each line and the total.
- Press Make draft invoices. Each customer gets one draft invoice under Invoices. Nothing is sent: open each one, check it and press Send.
Good to know
- A visit is billed once. After it is on an invoice it can't be removed, and it is not billed again.
- If you void that invoice, its visits can be billed again.
- A customer with visits but no rates is listed under the bill as not billed. Add their rates, then bill again.
If it doesn't work
- "A visit has at least one push or one salt application." Type a number of pushes or salt applications.
- "This visit is on an invoice, so it is kept as it is. Void the invoice to bill it again." Void the invoice first if the visit was wrong.
- "Invoices are switched off for this business." Switch on Invoices in Settings, then bill again.
- Rates and Bill snow work are missing: your position does not see money.
