How to ask for cover on a shift
Team → Time → Rota. Ask the team to take one of your shifts, offer to take a teammate's, and a manager approves who takes it.
Updated 2026-10-25
Can't make a shift? Ask the team, e.g. "Tuesday 9:00–17:00, dentist". Teammates offer to take it, and a manager approves one of them. The rota changes only when a manager approves.
Where
Team → the Time tab → Rota. The Rota shows once the business works shifts.
Steps
- Under My shifts, press Ask for cover on the shift.
- Add why if you like, then press Ask the team. The team is told.
- A teammate sees it under Cover wanted and presses I can take it. They can press Take back my offer until it is approved.
- A manager sees who offered and presses Approve next to one name.
What happens next
The shift becomes the approved teammate's, and stays published. Everyone is told who now covers it, and it moves to their My shifts.
Good to know
- You can ask for cover only on your own shift, once it is published and before the day has passed.
- Someone who is off that day (approved time off), or already on a shift at those hours, cannot offer.
- The person who asked, or a manager, can press Cancel request. The shift then stays as it was.
- If a manager moves or removes the shift, its cover request goes away.
If it doesn't work
- "Only the person on this shift can ask for cover. A manager can move the shift instead."
- "Cover is for a published shift that has not happened yet." Ask the manager to publish the week first.
- "You are off that day…" or "You already have a shift at that time that day." You cannot take this one.
- "That shift was changed or removed since cover was asked for." Check the rota with your manager.
